Carlene & Niel - USA trip - Part 3

- 5 September 2012 -
Just when we thought the madness was behind us, BAM!!!  Smacked in the face with insanity once more.  In route to San Diego we made a quick pit stop for a bathroom break.  12.4 miles outside of Barstow is an even smaller town called Yermo.  Yermo is home to the spectacle known as Peggy Sue’s.  What the hell had we just walked into?   We were greeted with a life size sculpture of a waiter holding a golden tray, a 5 foot milkshake, and a 6 foot Betty Boop.  Next to the life size dolls was a gift shop filled with old 50’s and 60’s memorabilia.  Now this was all starting to make sense.  It’s a 1950’s style diner and tribute museum.  Better grab a beer while the others drink an old school milkshake (Seriously one of the best I’ve ever tried).  Wow the more I walked around the weirder it got.  Elvis, Blues Brothers, and random Mannequins.  The whole scene began to make me tense so I decided to walk out back to get some fresh air.  WHAT THE FUCK?  Why is King Kong here?  Dinosaurs?  Zombies?  What the shit is all of this about?  Why is there a turtle pond?  Why can’t I feed the metal dinosaurs?  What does any of this have to do with the 1950’s?  Well if you can’t beat them I guess you must join them.  I hopped on the “Diner-Saur Park” stage, did a little dance and got the hell out of there.  What a strange turn of events that trip was.

That dinosaur above the "Pizza" sign ...hahahaha. It's like a cross between a T-Rex and a Stegosaurus.
Those mannequins in the top photo are unsettling.
